Name: Jennifer Harman Date of Birth: unknown Place of Birth: unknown Profile JENNIFER HARMAN, age “thirtysomething”, may be diminutive at 5 ft 2 inches, but she’s not demure at the poker table. To many, she’s not just the best female player on the planet, but one of the best players – period. She’s a regular at the biggest poker game in the world at Las Vegas’ Bellagio, and recently won the largest pot in history in a “cash” game at a major casino (i.e.non-tournament), $1.7 million. She also has two world championships to her credit—the only woman to do so. Harman was one of the last two pro players at the World Poker Tour’s final table in Aruba last year. A regular on the World Poker Tour, she is one of a handful of professionals who will play the entire 13-tournament circuit and one of only two women. She was one of six featured women to star in the World Poker Tours’ “Ladies’ Night” show on The Travel Channel.Harman says she was born with a deck of cards attached to her umbilical cord. Watching her mother and father play in a home game, she was fascinated right from her childhood, with her earliest memories of card playing at five years old.Raised in Reno, she began her professional career in her teens, after a brief oneyear stint as a cocktail waitress. One of her stations was the casino poker room, so she would shed her waitress attire and adjourn to the tables after work until poker became her primary income. Harman also played through her years while attending the University of Nevada where she pursued a degree in biology.Harman has an almost genius perception of mathematics and odds when calculating hands. But she attributes her success to an “uncanny ability to get inside someone’s head…an intuitive knowledge of how they think and how they play.” Once she determined to take seriously tournament poker, she won the second tournament she entered. Today, she feels she’s stronger at “limit” Texas Hold ‘Em than No Limit, which is played on the WPT circuit, but she is feared enough that many experienced poker players won’t face her. Harman says she’s “a perfectionist when it comes to poker. The hard part is realizing that it’s a game that you can never play perfectly.”Harman is married to superstar Italian hairdresser Marco Traniello, and they live in Las Vegas, while flying around the world for their respective careers.
