- Velador wins WSOP Event #33 for over $260K
Full Tilt Poker pro Jose Luis Velador won Event #33 at the 2010 WorldSeries of Poker*, taking home his second WSOP* bracelet and a payday of morethan US$260,000 in prize money.
The Mexico-born player turned pro in 1997, steadily improving his gameand reputation as a worthy tournament player. He earned his first bigtournament score at the 2006 World Series of Poker Main Event, where hecashed for over US$30k in prize money. Just two years later, he beat a fieldof over 2,300 players at the 2008 WSOP to win the US$1.5K No-Limit Hold 'emevent, claiming $574,734 and his first bracelet.
Now, Velador has a second bracelet under his belt after besting a fieldof 482 players to win Event #33. The US$2,500 Pot-Limit Hold 'em/Omahatournament attracted some of the biggest names in poker. As the event playedout, Full Tilt Poker pros dominated the action, including Team Full Tilt'sPhil Ivey who finished the tournament in 12th place.
Velador's remarkable run started on Day Two of the tournament as heeliminated player after player before entering the final day as chip leader.He continued to dominate the tournament and increase his stack. The fieldeventually played down to a final three made up of Velador and fellow FullTilt Poker pros Rob Hollink and David Chiu. Velador eliminated Hollink inthird place, gaining a large chip lead against Chiu as they entered heads-upplay.
In the final hand, the flop came down 6-3-2 and Chiu invested more thanhalf of his stack in the pot with A-10. Velador reraised with a pair of sixesto put Chiu all in, and Chiu called. Chiu's hand failed to improve and hewalked away in second place with over $160,000 after placing the bracelet onthe Velador's wrist.
Velador's victory earned him a second bracelet and a first prize of$260,552, bringing his total career tournament earnings to over US$1.3million.
